Things to Do Near Bull Shoals Lake & Branson

Bull Shoals Caverns sits in one of the most beautiful corners of the Arkansas Ozarks — on the shore of Bull Shoals Lake, minutes from the White River, and an easy day trip from Branson, Missouri. Make a half-day of the cave, gemstone panning and browse our large gift shop, then explore everything else the area has to offer.

On the Water: Bull Shoals Lake

Bull Shoals Lake is one of Arkansas's largest lakes — and the biggest on the Arkansas–Missouri border — with more than 1,000 miles of clear Ozark shoreline to fish, boat, swim, and explore. It's world-renowned for bass fishing, and its countless coves are perfect for water-skiing, paddling, or just cruising. Several full-service marinas and boat docks around the lake rent boats and offer guided fishing trips.

Bull Shoals Dam & the Gaston Visitor Center

Completed in 1951 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bull Shoals Dam rises 256 feet and created the lake. Right above it, the James A. Gaston Visitor Center offers sweeping views of the dam and the White River valley, hands-on exhibits, a Johnboat Theater, and an observation tower — a great free stop for families.

World-Class Trout Fishing on the White River

Just below the dam, the cold tailwaters of the White River are internationally famous for trout fishing — rainbow, brown, cutthroat, and brook trout. Whether you bring a rod or book a guide, this is bucket-list water.

Bull Shoals–White River State Park

This state park straddles the lake and the river with campsites, trails, a boat ramp, and a trout dock that rents boats and gear. Watch for signature seasonal events throughout the year.

A Day Trip from Branson

Bull Shoals Caverns is about 71 miles (around 1½ hours) south of Branson — close enough for an easy round-trip and a refreshing change of pace from the Branson Strip. Trade the crowds for a hands-on, walk-at-your-own-pace cave tour and real gemstone panning.
